This is Sjogren’s seminal work, first published in 1993 that aptly states, “This is the book that defined servant evangelism.” In a nutshell, servant evangelism is demonstrating the kindness of God by offering to do some act of humble service with no strings attached. If you’re looking for a richer explanation of the ideas behind servant evangelism and practical expressions of God’s love that lead to conversion, this book is for you.

“In last week’s meeting, I asked how do we humble ourselves and read Isaiah 58 about the purpose of fasting was not to impress God on how serious you were about seeking Him, but to use your food saved money to bless others and thus let God’s love shine.
Well, we talked about who was really poor vs. street people poor, etc. I was later impressed to recall 3 people at Home Depot who were barely making it, some on food stamps, etc. God impressed on me to start giving them my fasting money each week as I fast, one person a week.
I gave the money to a middle aged hispanic security guard, only working part time and making minimum wage. I told him that during my prayer time, God wanted me to give him this money and tell him that this was a love gift from God. Well, you can imagine how shocked he was and started crying. He just stood there and could not say anything, but shook my hand and nodded, and I walked away crying, myself, with joy.”

Our mission is: to share the love of God in a practical, winsome way with people in the city of Austin, to help reticent Christians have a positive experience in these acts of servant evangelism, sharing the love of God with those far from God in a non-threatening way. Our goal is to develop a deposit of excited, experienced, motivated people in the Church who will continue reaching out to their communities with God’s love. This is what we mean by servant evangelism, “low risk, high grace.”
